Visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial
Kigali Genocide Memorial is a place of remembrance of the people of Rwanda, who lost their lives during the 1994 Rwanda genocide, the people of Rwanda have since then been committed to fighting through the peace and reconciliation processes, the Kigali Genocide Memorial is the final resting place to the people who died and bodies that scattered all over the city, funds were raised to build a final resting place of over 25,000 victims of the war, people can go to the memorial site to grieve their lost beloved ones, and a great place of the historical moment, it is also as a sign of the country never repeating the same mistakes of the past.
In April 1994, from the president’s home when the plane crashed is when this whole massive killing happened, little was done from the outside world as it was already a lot of chaos in the country it was more of a tribal-based war between the Hutus and the Tutsi some of these felt oppressed and several other factors that were fueled in the ruling government,in 2000nthe Kigali city council begun to construct the building which would become a great place of memories to the people of Rwanda, later which remains and belongings were gathered and collected here, there are about 6 major centers of Rwanda, and this one is the lead of the people slowly started visiting in memory of their beloved ones, the center describes the events that took place in this time interpreting it different languages.
The Kigali genocide includes three permanent exhibitions, the largest containing adults, the other children, and the third is for other people from the world’s other genocides, it was a tough time for the natives as most of the tried to escape the situation to neighboring countries people lost their lives including children and women, it is a touching story as the tribes massacre themselves toalmost at the site you will get to learn so much of what transpired and triggered the war, guides on the ground some of them were present during this time and each of them has got a different story to tell, the experience can be very emotional, as you will have the chance of listing to the audio playing of stories being told of the fate full time that befell Rwanda.
The Nyamata church is one of those places where the massive killing happened, the Tutsi seemed refuge in the church however this turned out to be a death trap, each one of them was killed to the last person, remains and belongings of the individuals are still in the church with an alter showing blood splits. The ceiling of the church still shows bullets of what transpired, the Altar cloth has stained blood, and their identity cards which identified different people are still within the church, the Murambi genocide memorial situated in southern Rwanda, the center is one of the six sites of the country where many people were buried these and many other places have been placed as places of memory.
